A conversation with the school House Captains: (before we knew about Stage 3)
What are some of the things happening at school at the moment?
Maeve: In Music we are learning to play the ukulele. We are learning chords
and songs we can all learn together.
Mia Weir: It is exciting that we are learning an instrument.
Kai: I learned ukulele a couple of years ago and I remember some chords
now so that’s good.
Mia Weir: Even though there is a pandemic going on we are still learning
different sports and keeping active and healthy.
Kai: We can play soccer during these times
Julia: Even though we are not playing footy, netball and basketball, sport is
still fun and we are learning skills.
Jmara: We play good games as a warm up like Chinese Walls, Rock Paper
Scissors and Octi
Mia Dugard: In Art we have been learning graffiti writing. We really like this
because we use different fonts and techniques.
Sharlotte: We look at professional graffiti artists’ work and discuss the meanings
behind their work.
Maeve: There are four main techniques...
Kai: Sharp, wavy, bubble and overlapping. We are doing Christian
meditation on some mornings.
Mia Weir: It helps clear your mind before school.
Julia: The music helps us be calm and get ready for the day.
Mia Dugard: We are making comic strips in Integrated Studies. We are learning
about kids’ rights.
Mason: We are learning about the rights’ of a child. The UN set 42 rights for a
child.
Mia Weir: We are learning about the poverty and sanitation and malnutrition of
some children.
Julia: We are talking about empathy, sympathy and apathy.
Kai: Empathy is when you can put yourself in someone else's shoes.
Jmara: Sympathy is when you feel bad for someone who is feeling bad but you
don’t put yourself in their shoes.
Maeve: You pity them.
Sharlotte: Apathy us when someone else's opinion doesn't affect you at all and
you don’t care or feel emotions.
Kai: We are learning new things in Italian.
Mason: We are playing quizzes and Italian games.
Maeve: We are making little skits and performing them in Italian and learning
about Italian theatre that is performed with masks.
Kai: We have a new teacher in STEAM.
Jmara: Her name is Ms Buccilli and we are making lunar modules that have to
be strong enough to withstand being dropped on the table.
Maeve: We are trying to replicate landing on the moon.
Mia Dugard: In writing we are doing information reports. We wrote one on an
Australian animal and this week we are researching different countries.
Kai: I am working on my editing- especially punctuation.
Mason: I am working on editing as well- using better vocab.
Mia Dugard: Once we have finished a few information reports we will pick the best
one and make a website.
Julia: We are all having a novel read to us. There are three different novels
which all relate to child rights.
Sharlotte: It is exciting to see the renovations happening.
All: We are enjoying school and are excited about our learning!
Hopefully we can take this energy and enthusiasm into Remote Learning and reconnect later in the term!

Lord......................
May your love and light shine in and through me today
In a way that no mask can hide.
May my eyes dance with the laughter and joy
Replacing my hidden smile.
May my actions of care and concern
Speak louder than my muffled voice ever could.
And may the generosity of my heart
Radiate out through who I am
And how I respond to the world around me
So that others may not see my mask
But your image shining out
Moving in and through me today.
Amen

Neil Austin the Bus Coordinator is in the process of creating the 2021 bus roll. Neil has requested that forms need to be submitted for new preps even if you intend to drive them to school for the first little while, as well as any other students who wish to start using the bus service. Please note that late enrolments may find that they will need to go onto a waiting list even if they have older siblings using the bus. Those that apply at the beginning of next year may miss out. Please complete the attached application and email it to info@stjwonthaggi.catholic.edu.au
Due to the implications of COVID-19 and the restrictions that have been put in place we, regretfully, need to cancel our planned Orientation sessions until further notice. We have been discussing different options and if we are able to, will organise a modified Orientation program late in the year, depending, of course, on the circumstances.
We sincerely apologise for the disappointment this will cause.

Bishop-Elect Gregory Bennet: POSTPONEMENT! In light of the current circumstances of Covid-19 restrictions in the State of Victoria and following the announcement of “Steps” by Premier Andrews for Regional Victoria and Metropolitan Melbourne, it is necessary to postpone the planned Ordination and Installation of Bishop-Elect Gregory Bennet which had been scheduled by 20th October at St. Mary’s Cathedral Sale. The steps for Regional Victoria prevent public religious worship within the Cathedral and other settings (with special exemption for restricted funerals) until 23rd November 2020. Once the Diocese is able to receive advice that we are able to proceed with the liturgy of Ordination and Installation of Bishop-Elect Bennet you will be notified immediately. As you would understand the liturgy will respect all restrictions as required. In any event the Ordination will be live-streamed in order that we can gather as One people in faith in welcoming our new bishop among us.
A list of live streams across the Diocese is on cdsale.org.au/coronavirus page. This page has listed the Mass times which occur regularly, ie. Don’t change from week to week.
We have been emailing and sending out important communications from the Diocese and if you would like to be involved and receive this information then please contact the Parish Office on 56 721 111 or email your details to wonthaggi@cdsale.org.au.
